Get Your Office Organized!

Get Your Office Organized in 2014!

One of the things I have been focusing on in the past few days since returning from Holidays, has been re-organizing my office space.

Working from home, I find that having a disorganized office can lead to procrastination. Procrastination in my work and also in keeping the rest of my house clean. It’s also vital to my photography and wedding planning business that I stay VERY organized. While perusing Pinterest into the early hours of the morning, I came up with some ideas for my office that I feel could help others. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some tips and project ideas to help keep your home office space organized.

First of all, start small!

Don’t organize your entire office in one go. It can be a lot of work depending on your office situation and if it becomes disorganized again, procrastination about tidying it up again can set in (mindset of “I don’t have the time to do this again”). Everyday for one week set aside 15 minutes (yes, use a timer!) and dedicate that 15 minutes to clean and organize one area of your office space. Start at the most obvious space in your office, the space you use most – the area directly around your computer, phone, etc. Once the 15 minutes is up, stop. Put what you have in your hand away in it’s place. You’ve done enough organizing for today.

For me, a “To Do List” is crucial. It helps me stay on track of what needs to be done. However most do do lists I was using last year (in 2013) were just paper based. This “to do list” normally got lost in the mound of paperwork I had out or filed away in my calendar, etc. I wanted something that was functional and practical that I couldn’t misplace. So I came up with the “frame” idea. I made my own “dry erase board”! Go to a store that sells photo frames that fits your office decor. You will need a frame that fits a minimum of an 8×10 print. Make sure that the frame has glass, not plastic as it’s easier to use dry erase markers on glass. Next print this “To Do List” free printable I’ve created, put it into your frame and either hang from a wall or display on your desk! You will never lose your to do list again, and it adds an extra design element to your office space!
